What is disk partition?
Disk partition itself suggests splitting of the hard disk into two. Splitting of hard drive allows you to run two OS on one mac like macOS and Windows and macOS betas too. It simply divides the total storage of hard drive into two and allocates equally. But if you are running out of storage, then I would suggest not to install two different programs or go for an external hard drive instead.
Before You Start
Before you partition hard drive equally, take backup and prevent data loss. The simple and quick way to back up mac is Time Machine. Check you should have at least 30GB free storage to run the second OS, and if you can free up to 50GB, then it is best.

A clean installation can be a daunting process, since it involves carefully backing up data, removing any useless files, resetting the system and installing the new operating system. However, by following this step-by-step guide, the process should be seamless and straight forward.
Back up your Mac
There are multiple ways of backing up your Mac, but the best method is through the feature built into macOS, Time Machine.
- Use Time Machine Backup by connecting an external drive to your Mac. Go to System Preferences > Time Machine to setup the disk for backup.
Depending on the amount of data on your Mac, it might take many hours for the backup to complete. So plan this step carefully. It might be wise to leave the backup running overnight.
Download macOS Mojave
Mojave 10.14 can be downloaded from the Mac App Store. It’s more than 6GB in size so the download might take some time.
- Open Mac App Store and search for macOS Mojave
- Download it and when the download completes, the installer will open up. Close it, as we will be using the installation file to create a bootable drive
Alternatively, you can follow our guide to download the full installer for macOS Mojave, without using the Mac App Store.
Create bootable USB Drive
